1973 AL Standings and League Leaders

 May 1, 1973

The month of April is in the books for the 1973 AL season. As we begin May we see the Baltimore Orioles (16-3) have been red hot out of the gate and have won their last 9 in a row. That's allowed them to jump into a big 6.5 game lead in the AL East over my 2nd place Detroit Tigers (10-10).
In the AL West, the Minnesota Twins (11-6) have gotten off to a good start to grab the division lead. The race is a lot closer in the West, with the last place team only 4.5 games out.
Detroit Tiger Willie Horton has gotten off to a good start and leads the AL with 6 HR and is 3rd in batting with a .410 average. Rod Carew leads in BA with a .484 mark. Baltimore's Don Baylor leads in RBI with 19. Chicago's Wilbur Wood (5-0) and Detroit's Joe Coleman (5-1) lead the AL in Wins.
